Melaka confident of good performance

Melaka is confident of putting up a strong challenge during the new Premier League season which starts this January as the field is more open this time around.

Team Manager, Yazed Khamis said the absence of imported players this time around will ensure a more open and balance race for the title. He said, during the previous seasons, Melaka have always faltered to teams with good imported players and as such, he is confident that the new development will provide ample opportunity to all teams, including Melaka.

"I believe all my players will be able to put up a decent performance and try to help us achieve our aim of returning to the Super League," he told reporters this after a sponsorship presentation ceremony recently.

Apart from the Premier League team, the President Cup and men and women team for the Futsal League received the sponsorship of Kika sporting attire and foot wear.Apart from Kika, Telekom Malaysia is also sponsoring the team with a RM500,000 contribution.

According to Yazed, Melaka team for the new season will comprise a combination of new and experienced players, where about 70 percent of them are locals. He said 14 players from last season, including Rahim Bakar and Firdaus Abu, were retained while the rest are players from Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis and Kuala Lumpur's President's Cup team.

"We have a great combination of players for this new season. What we are doing right now is to work on their understanding as a team. With about two months to the new season, I think we have ample time to work on this," he added.
